knocking in rear over uneven surface

i'm hearing (and feeling) a loud knocking, like something banging around in the rear passenger end when going over uneven ground. it's not really heard at all as long as the pavement is flat and the wheels stay even???? what could this be and how serious??

Re: knocking in rear over uneven surface

first thing I'd check would be the shocks, one of the mounting bolts could be loose.

Re: knocking in rear over uneven surface

Makes sense, but check your wheel studs also. If they're cracked, or the wheel nuts are loose, it would make a loud clicking sound.
