Unhappy 1997 VW Jetta GLS Valve pan gasket

My valve pan gasket is leaking and driping onto the manifold. What parts will I need for this repair. It says in a shop manual 1.5 hours for labor. Is that accurate? Is there any other recommened repairs while doing that one? An where is the engine code located so I can get the right gasket? Do you have to remove the upper intake to do this repair?

Do you mean valve cover gasket. If so then you DO need to remove the upper intake manifold to remove the valve cover (easy, there are 5 5mm bolts 3 in front 2 behind use a long allen socket) also replace the paper gasket for the upper intake manifold. Also when the intake manifold is off use some good break cleaner and clean out all the carbon buildup in the manifold top piece and bottom (will help drivability). also clean the valve cover nuts and apply some locktite to prevent them from coming loose in 10k miles.
