I have a 1996 Ford Explorer and it will crank but you have to give it gas. It was running great and i went up a 5 mile dusty road and back, i came back and went 20 miles on the pavement and i stoped and it would go to about 300 rmps for about 2 secs and just die. Thanks for reading this.

sorry depending on which engine you have it could be different however with your model year i would guess a 4.0 .It would be located very close to the throttle body that is where the tube from your air cleaner goes onto your engine it is a silver valve with a 2 wire connector.sometimes it is black try tapping it lightly with a small hammer first

Re: 1996 explorer....starts but have to push gas
I really hate to bother you again but i cleaned the iac and it worked great, and i went up the road and it makes a loud humming noise, i thought it was in the vacum next to the air filter and it wasnt, you can stick your hand in the hose (when the filter is off) and it makes a even louder noise. thanks for reading

No bother. You will have to replace that valve. It's not uncommon to get a buzz or a foghorn noise from it. they are not expensive and easy to change. |
