Ticketa ticketa tick

I've got a slight ticking noise in the P.Side front when lightly braking. No apparent failure in the CV boots, but before I dig, I thought I might consult you all. What's my problem likely to be?

Karl

Hi Coach.
1st check to be sure all your lug nuts are tight. If you have hubcaps , remove them and road test.
I would suspect a slight high spot in the rotor causing the pad to jump.
To confirm I would swap rotors left to right and road test to confirm. Then of course make sure you put them back on the correct side again after. OR . check rotor runout with dial indicator. You may see rust spots eating into the inside surface of the rotors. You may also see a wear mark on the caliper where the pad rests which would indicate the pad hopping.
I wouldn't suspect any problems in the axle or cv joint.
Good luck.

Road test without the hub caps....they have clips that break.....etc. So they can cause ticking sounds under various conditions. Also....is the easiest thing to try....and you have to take them off to try the other things.

Re: Ticketa ticketa tick

Thank you.

I have the fancy aluminum wheels on my 95, 3.8 170Kmiles winny. I personally twisted the PS front wheel on just before family vacationk, 90 days ago (and 8K miles ago.) Will check the lug nuts and post back. Swap rotors? OK, if I pick up the front end, I will.

Thank you again.

Karl.

One more thought. If you had wheels off recently, perhaps a chunk of rust became lodged between the rotor and hub causing it to have a slight wobble in rotor.
Good Luck
