Question 99' Whinning noise

have 99' E.B. with a auto-trans, 2wd and V8. Just got the car from father due to health reasons. ? is that the vehicle makes a LOUD whinning noise when it reaches 25+ mhp..trans shifts and pulls fine. I think the noise sounds like it is coming from the rear differential / axle area. The closest thing I can compare the sound to is heavy equipment transmission (backhoe. etc..). Any thoughts on what this may and help would be great...trans fluid is good, tires are good...

try draining all the old fluid out of the differential and putting in new fluid. if this does not work the bearings or the pinion might be loose. hope this helps you.

I had the same problem, it was a bad planatary gearset inside thr tranny and a bad driveaxle. it took about 7 hours to do it but i wouldn't even attempt it unless you have knowledge of auto transmissions

Re: 99' Whinning noise

First check your tires for cupping and uneven treadwear. What speed range is it most noticable? Does it occur mainly during accellaration, coasting (check in drive and neutral!), cruiseing under throttle, or all of the above? Any vibration or frequecy change based on wheel and driveline speed?
