how to replace accumulator cover on rodeo auto?

It does appear that I have got a moderate leak from the accumulator cover on my 00 Rodeo.

(see 00 Tranny Problem Thread)

I have ordered a new part from the local dealer...can somebody tell me how to change it?

thanks

Mike

Mike, I cant find any threads on it, but IIRC, you have to shove the piston cover in (which is a PITA), allowing you to remove the snap ring. Let the assembly pop out, replace the seal, mash it back in & then replace the snap ring. Hopefully someone who's done it before will chime in!?!

Re: how to replace accumulator cover on rodeo auto?

I just checked cd manual and it looks like there is some speacial tool to push it in.

I search and around (the trooper board) and request to have a link posted to the manual.

Re: Re: how to replace accumulator cover on rodeo auto?

I'm doing the same thing right now. Ive got the snap ring out. Used an extension and a hammer to push the cover in (hey it worked) but cant figure out how to get the stupid thing back out. In the FAQ they say to start the engine and the line pressure should shoot the thing out. Well, it doesn't. Ive had the truck running in every gear and nothing. Im starting to get a little ticked especially at the idiot that designed the fill plug for the tranny. Im sure he gets a good giggle every time he thinks someone has to check or add ATF to this brilliant brain fart.

Did you goose the throttle a bit in gear? I'm surprized line press didn't push it back out. Is it leaking like a sieve? I hear you about the 'sealed' 4L30E. More and more are going this route today. Likely a group of marketing egg-heads determined most people will only take it to the dealer for service this way & people like the sealed for life/maint free idea. HORRIBLE idea for an AT.

Man I've revved it up in every gear. Tapped on it with a hammer. Tried to pry it out with a screwdriver. You would think that if it was in that good that it wouldnt leak.

Supposedly there is a special tool that gets stuck in the little indentation in the plug. Screw it down and it grabs hold of the rubber. Isuzu tech I talked to says he uses a pry bar.

The pry bar worked. I got it out in two pieces but it worked. Putting the new one back in is almost as fun as getting it out. There is a tool to install the new one. I borrowed it from my local dealership. It fit a 700r4 but I had to use a smaller bolt for the 4l30. I prayed the whole time that it didn't break on me. I
