'91 buick regal radio question

Hello agian guys.
I have that stupid square radio in the dash , and the silver box(the actual radio, under the glovebox). How do i put a real deck in the car? Im gettin annoyed because the left side of the stereo, is going bad (the speakers arnt bad, the wiring isnt bad, and i have the altanator humm in all of my speakers. This confuses me, becuase i have never seen something stupid like that. And is there an easy way to run an amp wire (10 gauge) to the trunk? I mostly mean from the battery to the inside of the car... i dont want to run it along the driverside of the car,and then have it stick out for 2 inches.. .i want to do that right....lol...
Thanks,
Bill

Re: '91 buick regal radio question

you should have a tape player below the radio and climate control and above the ashtray you will have to remove that. screws are behind the trim peice, then you will have to get the radio install peice they are hard to find but curcuit city should still keep them in stock, that will make your aftermarket radio fit in the tape player cavity. you will also need a radio wiring harness that will change your new radio wiring be able to plug in to the wiring harness you have to remove from the silver reciever box in the dash you will want to measure to make sure the new wiring will reach the existing wiring (unpluged from the silver box)you may have to add equal lengths of wire between the new radio wiring and the new harness if not already remove the glove box to work from instead of under the dash the tape player cavity opens up to glove box cavity all of your new wiring will go through there also don't forget your antenna wiring will also have to reach to the former tape player location and gm uses a smaller male antenna plug, adapters are also avalible

For the amp wiring, i personaly had to replace my power antenna with a mast antenna so i tested the remaining harness for constant and switched power and used that. my suggestion if that is not an option for you: your new radio should have a remote wire DO NOT hook that to your new harness instead run that down the passenger side and under the back seat out to the trunk along with your 12v constant. there under the trim where the door closes and the floor carpet starts, and under the back seat there is a conduit where the fuel pump, brake light, ect wiring runs to the back

Hope i didn't confuse you and Good Luck!!

I had put a couple of subs and an amp in my 91 regal GS about 4 years ago. Thankfully I had a buddy that knew how to rig it up and I paid him to do it. He had run a wire from the car battery, through the firewall on the passenger side, under the plastic trim and into the trunk for the amp. I thought it was pretty sleek, the only time u could see the wire was if you were looking for it when you opened the passenger door and looked toward the door hinges.

I know your probably looking to do it all yourself, but for the stereo I took my vehicle to a place called Duke's Car Stereo. They rocked. In the spot that had the old crappy sqare radio they used like a 5-place tape holder. Dunno where the hell they pulled it from, but it fit right in the spot and to this day I just use it for smokes, lighter, gum, whatever.

The electric antenna was never a problem for me as mine was already changed to a mast as well. My brother, the previous owner, had already broken the electric one while going through a car wash. (his wife did it) Whats funny is everytime you turn the ignition you can still hear the mechanics of what would have been the antenna going up.

Well GL interested to see what you ended up putting in the bare spot, I know I had considered leaving the lifeless radio there but thought that would be really lame. XD
