Has anyone used one of them Turbonators???

I have been reading all I can find about those vortex turbo's (The Turbonator) that ya can install in your GEO. My 92 LSI has 160,000 mi. I take it everywhere, and I drive long distance 2-3 times a month. Ft.Bragg NC to Baltimore and to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, During the summer I am constantly going all over the place, Oklahoma, South Dakota, YankeeLand, et al.,
I could use a little extra power and have thought about them there things, Is it BullShit or what? I always use Pantinum2 plugs but get only minor gas mileage improvemnt and NO power increase.

Yeah that was a good one there, . And if my mind wasn't on vacation I would have realizied you can't have fuel economy and preformance , especially from an add-on.
Thanks , they won't be getting my $$$$$

Actually, you can have both. Performance is nothing but making your engine run more efficiently. When you modify things, you're not "gaining" power, as much as you are decreasing the amount of power lost by the in-efficiencies of the engine. A turbocharger would actually give you great gains in MPG, but, under high boost, it will use more gas. Technically, if you tuned a low boost system, you could get about 10-15 more mpg from your metro. But, if you're heavy on the throttle, it will kill your gas mileage. A port and polish on the engine, and some tuning will also gain you mpg. So will a cold air intake, port matching, and advance the cam timing +2deg. Under normal driving conditions, with all these mods and a 3psi turbo, you would get about 70mpg. BUT, if you like the power you get, and are heavy on the gas, you'll get about 15mpg. If the engine runs more efficient, it will also use more gas in the high RPM range, to make up for the increased air flow. In the low RPM range, it will allow things to breathe more freely, and you'll lose less power to heat and turbulence in the engine head and intake/exhaust.

Exclamation

I talked to the store manager at my local autozone about these things (they have brochures for them at every comp. terminal) and he said they weren't worth the money. The discussions I have been a part of or have read say that they "may " help a little with power and fuel but it would take forever to recoup your $70.00.

I think they look like an old pie plate somebody hacked up and folded....I'd be afraid something would fly off and end up in the intake.
