1999 Dodge Caravan 3.3L Brakes Locked
I have a 1999 Dodge Carvan that was wrecked in the front. My insurance totaled it. I bought it and drove it 12 miles home with no problem. I then drove it 7 miles to a body shop to get the radiator, bumper, grill, and headlights repaired. After the hood and fans were replaced the shop called to have me drive the van home. I made it about a block before I traced the transmission fluid back to the shop. They put some more into the transmission and it does shift fine. However, the brake pedal is hard as a rock and the brakes are engaged to the point that it will cause the pads to smoke. I tried to release the calipers and one is stuck. What would cause the brake fluid not to release the pads? Of course the body shop says it isn't their fault. I don't understand why the van drove fine before the shop and after the body work it is having brake problem. Thanks for any help or advice.

you could have just bad calipers. The other possibility is that when they were fixing up the van, they could have hit a line and kinked up causing a restriction in the line and could cause a lock-up condition like what you're having now.

Did you find the tranny leak? Start with the hoses that go from the tranny to the radiator and see if one of them got damaged while it was in the shop. Then look for damage to the tranny pan and then look at the output shaft seals and if you have to pull the flywheel cover and look for fluid there which would indicate the seal in there
|

Make sure they put ATF+4 fluid in it or all the work will be for nothing because you won't have a working transmission in a few weeks.
It sounds like there was good reason for the INS to declare a total loss.

Rusting of the brake line holder caused the hose to close. The rest of the hose was fine. put a screw driver in the gap and bend the holder to loosen the the grip on the holder
