When I am driving or starting to excel in first gear & give it gas. It stalls.Example: at a Stop sign, driving on the freeway at stop to 5 mile a hour, it kept stalling.( It smells like it gets flooded, I smell gas) Have to start it & push the gas peddle all the way to the floor & then smoke comes out the exhaust. I just don't understand Fuel Injection.HELP

Welcome to the forum.

How many miles on the car? Specifically how many miles since the plugs and wires have been replaced? That is where I would start, especially if the car has a lot of miles and no recent service. Plugs, wires, air cleaner, fuel filter, PCV valve, and throw in some fuel injector cleaner. I like chevron with techron. Also check that the throttle body (carburator type deal) is tight on the manifold and check for vacuum leaks.

Fuel injection itself is pretty basic. You have injectors, a pressure regulater, and a high pressure (in tank) fuel pump. All of which is controlled by the computer. When you push the gas pedal to the floor while cranking the engine the computer goes into a clear flood mode and stops the injectors from firing (dispensing fuel).

What you need to find is why you are flooding. Bad plugs and wires (not igniting the fuel), not enough oxygen (clogged air filter), dirty injectors, fuel pressure (bad pressure regulater or fuel filter), or bad engine control due to bad sensors or wiring.

Sorry I'm so long winded. Don't get too involved with this unless you have put in new plugs, wires, etc. recently. I have a link that will show how to check for codes and advice as to what sensors to check and how to check them if need be. Let us know and good luck.
