Front Driver side Window problem

2001 GCL
Front driver side window just "felt" down and does not want to get up

Pushing button, hear faint noise, not like on the other windows. Grabbing glass by hand, can move it up easy, but if falls down again right away.
What will it be?
Window regulator? or...?
If it is regulator, how easy to replace it myself?
Is there any one with directions or "blueprints" (can follow those).

Does any one have an idea how much would dealership chargme for the thing like that?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the window came out of the track. If I knew your level of skills I can give you directions on fixing it. DON'T take it to the dealer. They will charge you an arm and a leg.

Re: Front Driver side Window problem

Take the door apart and take the window out. Remove the track that the glass fits in. Sqeeze the track a little tighter so it will hold the glass better. I have also read in this forum that there is a mastic that will hold the glass to the track. I sqeezed mine a year ago and it still holds fine. I think the drivers window comes apart because it gets used more.

I have this same problem on the passenger door. The cable that pulls the window is loose and the window just falls down.

I've got the door apart but how do you remove the window?

If I can get some help it would be great.

Remove the molding on top. I think one end is a 4mm bolt ? Inside the door loosen the two bolts on the horizontal window channel and pull the window up and out.If you need more help I'll look up my Hatnes manual.Hobbie1 what year is yours ?

The one I'm repairing is my 2001 GC Limited. I got the window out. The regulator is broke. A plastic part that holds the draw cable is damaged. I need to buy a new regulator assembly, any ideas for a 2001?

Thanks for the help. This one is going off lease.. I bought a 05 Hemi. Seems to be a great Jeep after 9K miles no problems. This is my 4th one, the first with no problems.

That is exactly what was wrong with mine: broken plastic.
I got lucky, my father-in-law has a small shop in hte basement, so he actually rebuild the thing and reinforced it with the metal plate, so it is better then new one. Granted, we spent 6 hours doing that, but no money were involved. (lol)
I also found rebuilted complete window regulator on e-bay for something like 65 dollars, but didn't have to buy it after all. You can get it off e-bay, do search for window regulator and you'll see it, it is a same person who sells them all the time. I think brand new one will cost you somethin like 150. put it back together is 20min job ven if you do it for the first time.
Hope it helps.
