coolant in oil
Hey.. I have a 93 Wrangler that was leaking coolant. Couldn't find the leak originally, but now it's in the oil. It made its way all the way up onto the dipstick..... Is there any hope in trying to fix it? or do I now own an expensive lawn planter with a new exhaust system?

Re: coolant in oil
The engine is done, just swap in another 4.0L or do a chevrolet small block. More power, more fun!!

Re: coolant in oil
if it's just a head gasket, and you didn't drive it to much with coolant in the oil, it may be able to be saved. if it's anything more sevear than just a gasket, or it was driven an extended amount of time with coolant in the oil, then it's time for either a rebuild(assuming the block isn't to damaged), or replacement.

Re: Re: coolant in oil
Do you have a general idea of how much I should be looking at to replace the motor? My summer toy has already cost me more than I wanted to spend. I had been checking the coolant and oil every time I started it up. So, as soon as I saw the Elmers glue looking stuff on the dipstick, I didn't drive it. Thanks again for your help! I appreciate it.

Re: coolant in oil
That is true, could be a head gasket, that flew over my head, and I knew that from personal expirience on my Mazda Truck. $500 for a total new metal forged unit, cdn dog hairs of course (dollars). Should be cheaper on Jeep Rig. As they are way more common then a crap Mazda B2600i rig. Still is alot of work. You can do it. I am total newbie at repairs, but I jump into it, and its been all good. Except for one engine mount bolt that cracked in the block that cost me $300, from a rip off mechanic. I have done, drive line repairs, brakes, electrical. Just study the crap out of it, buy the right tools. And you are 75% there bud. I am jumping into a clutch job soon, without no prior expirience. Also, lift kit, axle swap. Just be brave, and dont rush it, take your time, study and tools.
Take care, and have a great freakin day peace |

Re: coolant in oil
how much coolant is missing, how high up the dip stick is your oil? A new head gasket will cost you about $40. Do all the work yourself. I would do a compression test before taking it apart. If two cylinders beside each other have a lower compression then it could very well be a head gasket. It could also be a cracked head or engine block.
