RKE Questions for 01 Voyager
I bought a used 2001 Voyager at auction earlier this year. It came with RKE, but it uses some big ugly key fobs, with no panic button. About 2 months ago, I fried one of the fobs by jumping into a swimming pool, with my keys in my pocket. I was so happy, cause it gave me the excuse to get some new thin fobs I was used to seeing with Dodge/Chrysler minivans.
I then purchased 3 newer style fobs on ebay, with the 3 buttons. Unfortunately, they I could not program them. The new remotes look exactly like the ones descibed in my 2001 Factory Shop Manual. The proceedure in my shop manual indicated that I needed to hold down the "panic" button on a working remote. This was impossible, since my working remotes only had the lock, and unlock buttons. To make a long story short, I think the dealer added RKE when the van was sold in April of 2001, and they used an RKE kit intended for an older van. This makes sense, because the sliding doors have keyholes (which usually indicates no RKE). The original remotes have the Chrysler logo on them, so they are not aftermarket. I also don't have the "Chirp" feature that the 2001 factory manual claimed I would have (I followed the proceedure to turn "chirp" back on, with no luck). What I want to do is update my van to use the newer fobs. I realize that I will have to buy a receiver, and I have found the part for $45 new at MoparPartz.com. I bought my Factory Cruise Control from them, and they are great to work with. Problem is, I don't think I can program my eBay remotes to work with a brand new Receiver myself. The dealer can program these with thier $5000 DRBIII tool, and they are going to charge at least $40 to do this. I can borrow an ODB-II scan tool made by Actron, can that do it? So my first Question is, should I hunt down a used Receiver + one programmed fob, so I can program the others? If so, Where would be a good place to get one (I haven't found my FCC-ID on eBay yet). Old 2 button Remotes: FCC ID: GOH-M24 New 3 button (eBay) Remotes: FCC ID: GQ43VT17T (made by TRW?) |
