The use of the word Refugees
Lately I have noticed that some in the media and in government have been using the term refugees to describe the folks leaving/displaced in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina.
Maybe its me, but I do not see them as refugees. a Refugee is one who leaves one's native land either because of expulsion or to escape persecution. These are citizens, within their own country. my  .TS out

I guess you're right TS but then again they have been driven out of their homes. Their situation goes with the first part but doesn't go with the second. They have been driven out and need shelter. The thing is it wasn't their country but home/city they were driven out of. I just think the term "survivor" would be good enough. What some of these people have been through just to stay alive is far from amazing. Maybe the media should just ignor censorship and call these people badasses.

Refugee is the wrong term for these folks. Victim is what they are and displaced is whats happened to them.
Survivor is a damn good term to use.
