1986 3.8 Backfiring/funny fuel smell
1986 88 120K
New plugs, wires, coils, PVC, brakes, tires, alternator, fuel filter My car still backfires, sputters, and runs rough in idle. No trouble codes are showing. I've ran HEET and injector cleaner though my gas and although both helped tremendously, the car still stalls on occasion at stops and accelerates rough. It still has maybe a gallon of year-old gas in it, but it has been diluted out so many times by fresh gas and the additives that i figure that it wouldn't have much effect on run issues. Also, after running the car, there is a strange gas-odor after i stop the engine...is that just a byproduct of the backfiring? Suggestions as to what to look into next?
