Here's yet another unscrupulous dealer story. Whatever you do DO NOT do business with Don Folk in Kelowna, BC Canada!!!!
Dear Sir, You have denied warranty coverage on a failed clutch cylinder that from what I've learned should not have failed to begin with. This on a leased car barely over the warranty coverage period. To top it off, I have called several other reputable repair facilities and found that Don Folk charged an average 30% more than the other quotes. This is clearly unscrupulous business practice and surprising that they would treat a long time customer this way. However now we know the "real" Don Folk and GM customer value. I assure you now that I will spend many times the cost of the repair in time and energy to spread the word about this shoddy business and the type of support one can expect from you. I hope the $1400 repair you denied was worth the tens of thousands you will spend on PR... |

Re: Don Folk Sucks
Your anger towards the dealer probably should be directed more towards GM. It's not the dealer that warranties the car, it's GM. If GM denies the coverage, the dealer would eat the cost of the repairs. Now dealers do have some latitide in what they could push through. But they don't have to.
Saying the part shouldn't have failed is obvious. No part should fail...they are designed not to fail. But ultimately thing wear out, break, etc. There has to be a line drawn somewhere as to where warranty coverage stops. You just happened to be on the wrong side of the line. If you wanted to have greater/longer coverage, you could have always opted for an extended warranty, obviously at a greater price to cover the greater risk the company would be assuming. While it may help you feel better, it's not likely to make a large impact on their bottom line. I don't think there is a single car owner that things their dealer DOESN'T overcharge for repairs...yet many people obviously still go to them.

Yes you're right about the "being on the wrong side of the warranty cut-off line" which makes it all the worse. Also the part about them overcharging - just about anyone will tell you not to go to the dealer if you want a fair price. However the cost was grossly over charged based on the costs of the parts themselves - less than $150 retail for the cylinder but charged over $400 - not to mention the labour. In fact you can buy an entire clutch kit for this car for $365 including slave cylinder, clutch and bearing.
None-the-less live and learn right. I've been to many a mechanic in my time and this is the first time I have seen such an obvious rip-off. All this being said... just heard from the dealer and they have recinded their earlier decision and are now going to cover 75% of the cost. This I think is a very fair and honourable compromise and one that makes me say "sorry" I was wrong, Don Folk is actually pretty decent I guess IF you are willing to call bullshit. |
