Does Flowmaster exhaust really help to boost power, torque, and fuel mileage??
Just wondering if flowmaster exhaust would help increase the torque, power, and fuel mileage on my 98 chevy crew cab dually 2wd, with 7.4L engine, and Auto tranny while towing. I tow a 24' bumper pull enclosed race trailer weighing about 10,000 lbs. loaded and I get 6-7 mpg. Wondering what to do to increase that? Thanks!

In the checking that I have done, the most gains achieved with opening up the intake and exhaust are above 2,000 RPM. If this is where you are towing at you may be able to get yourself up to 8 or 9 mpg with the Flowmaster.

Re: Does Flowmaster exhaust really help to boost power, torque, and fuel mileage??
What would be the best way to do this? I was thinking of just buying the kit with the muffler and the exhaust pipe out the back and leaving everything up until the stock muffler. Would there be much difference between having 2 1/2" duals or a 3" single?

The only diff would be that it is easier to hang the single where the stock pipe was.

smaller rear end gears, bigger rear tires, dual exhaust with flowmasters-no CAT, drive differently will help. Get off the gas sooner when coming to a stop and go easier on the starts. Keep it tuned and right air pressure. Go to a smaller engine like a 400SB or a diesel. These will all help some, but dont expect miracles with what you have. Also, I have heard good things about newly developed bio-diesel fuel, and hydrogen fuel(school buses have been using this for some time).
