Any know what trannies will mate up with a mopar 383?

I'm doing an engine swap with my dads pick-up to a '73 scamp but the pick-up is a manual and the scamp is an auto matic...might just change the scamp to a manual but i'm trying to look at different options atm. Any info is appreciated.

Kyle

heh found out the engine is not a 383 but a 340. Was wondering if that 727 tranny is the only tranny that will mate up to that block...also anyone have any idea what was the stock A/T tranny in the 73 scamp with the slant six?

727 or 904 for automatic. I would convert it to a manual if it was me. Also the crank will most likely need to be replaced if going from a manual block to an automatic tranny.

you dont have to change the crank, all you will have to do is get a flex plate to put a automatic inplace of a manual, manual transmissions had flywheels and that is only set up for manual clutches, to go with a automatic you have to get a flexplate that allows the trq converter to bolt to it and thats it, a flex plate and flywheel both have same mounting flange for a crank of that engine.

a 340 is an awesome engine.
Some automatic cranks do not have the hole drilled if you wish to use a 833 tranny, but any compitent machine shop cane do that for you.

A 727 is a great choice for the 340
