Unhappy Passenger Door will not open

Please can someone help with this problem? Recently I had my Golf IV passenger door attacked by some nice person and now I cannot open it. I have managed to take the door card off and can now see the locking mechanism but when I unlock the door and pull the handle the door will not open. Is there and electronic dead lock that has kicked in and is there anyway round bypassing the deadlock system? Any help from the experts would be much appreciated as I am loosing patients and currently have the car up for sale to make way for smaller less fun car. Thanks

What do you mean by "attacked"??? If they smashed up the door against the lock mechanism, than its going to be hard to open the door from the outside.

There is a small cable about 3 inches long that goes from the latch to the outer door handle, if you can somehow grab ahold of the cable and pull outwards the door should open. There is no "electronic lock".

Re: Passenger Door will not open

Hi - thanks for your response. Basically by attacked it was keyed quite badly. The locking mechanism is all intact and the cable you mentioned is still attached to the handle. As far as I can see, all cables are attached. From what I can see the locking barrel itself is all loose - the clamp that was holding it in place has fallen in the door. Using a screwdriver, I can unlock the car (can see/hear the lock pop up) but for some reason the door will not open. Thought it was the cable not pulling on the lock far enough to release it, but the cable will not pull any further. Anymore advice or tips would be greatly appreciated because I'm getting to the point where I am sick of the sight of the car. Thanks.

if the cable is pulled the lock should open. there is no real way the lock would not open unless its rusted shut from sitting for long long period of time.
