Hello,
Just bought a 1995 Neon, It has 108000 miles on it. Runs good but when I let off of the accelerator it dosent drop the RPMs to fast. I changed the plugs , they looked OK but I changed them anyway. Anybody come across this before, or is this common for this car? Also, what does "Highline" mean? Thanks in advance for the help. Brian |

Re: Idle problem
I think highline is an option package.
I don't have a suggestion on slow idle speed decay. weird.... I'm posting because I think this is very interesting if the source is not mechanical. Could be dirt in the accelerator cable slowing the return of the throttle. Maybe needs lube. you might reach under the cover of the throttle cable trunion with your right hand, palm up, and push the trunion up with your middle finger. I'm certain you are expert with the manuver (he he) This way you bypass the accelerator cable and determine if the slow recovery is due to engine control or a gooey cable. The cable need not move here. |

Re: Idle problem
The Highline model is a package that comes on the neon. If I recall correctly, it means you have P/W and P/L and maybe a sunroof.

I've got a 97 Plymouth Neon Highline.
The gas pedal is slow to come to idle when tapped. I notice that this problem is most prevelant when it's cold. I suspected maybe some gumming of the throtle plate and/or cam/cable but, I'm sure it has something to do with an idle/air component. Very interested to see what's the problem is. P.S. - My Highline has Power Locks but, not Power Windows and no sunroof. |

High Idle...bigest problem I've seen is a vacuum leak...check ALL vacuum lines and make sure throtle body is not leaking at the gasket to the manifold...good luck
