Angry 94 t&c shimmy

my 94 T&C has a serious front end shimmy at 40mph intermitently. usually on r/h turns or on ramps. once it starts it doesn't settle down for a few seconds. in the past 6 weeks (since july 4th) rebuild transmission, new axles(cv) both sides 4 wheel alignment(twice). 4 wheels spin balance, rotated tires twice, new struts and strut bearing plates.new trans mount, motor mount and motor mount bracket. Had the car in a a front end & brake specialist, he found no problems, all tie rods are tight all link are fine. the only suggestion at this point is something inside the steering rack. Do i spend $500.00 to replace it or should i look elsewhere?

Same prob

I have a 1994 with the same problem. You feel it more through your seat than through the steering wheel. Occasionally (right hand turns, usually on a ramp) it feels like you have a flat tire.

I've had it into 3 different places, no one can duplicate it. I'm sure they would want to replace all the struts, etc, but from what I read about this problem, that won't solve it.

I have read that changing the sway bar bushings have solved it, and also the steering intermediate shaft has been a solution.

Please let me know what may solve this, it seems to be a common problem.

Re: 94 t&c shimmy

Had the same problem after the trans was removed and rebuilt. No one could find the problem. I did it was the motor mounts 1 was worn out and the rest when out of adjustment.

Thats It!!

That is the exact same thing that happened to me! I had the transmission rebuilt, then the trouble started!! Did you say that changing motor mounts corrected the problem? I'm sick of having my butt shake while I'm driving, then always worrying that the van will break something when it does the wild shaking thing!

Re: 94 t&c shimmy

the front motor mount under the rad was worn out on mine. I replaced it . I then saw where all the other motor mount bolts had left old marks from before there where looseded so i adjusted them back to the old bolt marks. all my vibration was gone.

the motor mounts are new! I replaced when i did the trans in july.so are the struts the strut mtg plates the L/H axle the 2 front tires. all in july followed up by alignemnt and rebalance all tires. vibration still there especailly on r/h turns (loading left front tire).
p.s. the car rode beautifully for about 4 days after all the work was done, can the motor mounts slip?

Re: 94 t&c shimmy

well guess what the motor mounts are bad. it turns out that the tranny place (AAMCO) knew they were bad but only replaced one mount. They will not warranty that mount, but will give me a discount if i have all of them replaced. Called local sears they quoted $600.00 to replace all, Local repair shop said between $600 and $700. AAMCO after discount is $450.00 so guess where i went.
