1991 Toyota Camry... where is the fuel pump?

How much am I looking to spend? Is it worth it to get a new one or can I get one used? Is it in the tank itself or not (that's my main question... lol). Thanks in advance!

Hello FSUNolez336, the electronic fuel pump is located in the tank. I don't think you can get at it by removing the back seat. you probrally have to drop the tank. I don't know what they cost brand new; but if you do get a used one from a auto salvage yard just remember the pump your getting will probrally be just as old as the one your replacing. it might be ready to die on you soon after you install it. you never know....

don't buy from the toyota dealer. call your local auto parts store (auto zone, napa, pep boys) etc. and find who has the best price and buy brand new. good luck with your car.

Re: 1991 Toyota Camry... where is the fuel pump?

I think there is a pass-through located under the rear seat. In any case, it only takes a couple of minutes to remove the seat and look. I would hate to go through the job of removing the tank, only to find out there was a pass-through. That would ruin my whole day!

I too would recommend a new aftermarket fuel pump.

Good luck.

Hello FSUNolez336, I checked my Haynes repair manual for the 1983 -1991 camrys and looked under electronic fuel pump removal. it said the gas tank would have to be removed from the car to replace the pump. you can replace the fuel sender gauge by removing a round access cover located under the seat, but not the electronic fuel pump.

I replaced the fuel pump on a 1985 camry I owned a few years ago and did have to drop the gas tank. I wasn't sure if toyota canged the design on the second generation camrys 1987 - 1991 (as far as being able to get access to the fuel pump without droping the gas tank.) unfortunately they didn't change their design. Good Luck. JOET/CAMRY
