94 Caravan 'chirps' when put in drive/park and stop/start
94 Caravan SE 3.3L 150,000km.
About a week ago it began to make a chirping sound when I would put it into drive... or back into park.. just a short fast squeaky chirp.. Chirps when tranny shifts from 1st to second It also makes the same sound when I start off from a stop in drive. And it makes the same noise when I hit a bump or pothole. There is no chirping when driving on a flat road.. It seems to come from the front right of the van , but it's hard to tell. The tranny fluid isn't low , is a nice healthy color and doesn't smell burnt. Serpentine belt maybe? or CV joints? I'm praying it isnt the tranny.. I've never had any problems with this van before now.. Thank you.. |

it it happens when you take off, and when you hit a pothole, but not on a flat surface, it could be your suspension squeaking

It happens on flat surfaces when I start from a dead stop or come to a stop.
It also happens as the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd gear (on flat surfaces) The same short chirping sound is also when I go from drive to park and park to drive, but not from park to reverse or from reverse to park.. The sound seems identical to the sound when I hit a bump or pothole.. It's very weird.. not loud.. just a short sharp shirp..and just started out of the blue.. and it hasnt changed in pitch or length since it started... And theres been no change in the way the van drives or sounds.. its still smooth and strong in acceleration and smooth on the highway.. no strange noises or clunking or anything at cruising speeds.. Maybe the tranny is coming loose in its mounting ... ? |

Put it on ramps and check the exaust pipe. It may have some movment at the manifold and give a chirping sound.
