Programming A Remote

CathleenI have a working remote and want to purchase another for a 2002 Cavalier Z24. One person says you can only program with a scanner and another says he sells the programming with the remote so you can do it yourself. So, does anyone know how to program my remote? Also we have an OBD 1&2 and can this be used instead of Tech 2? Thanks to you all.
