4psi of boost is closer to a 30whp-40whp gain and maybe 50wtq. An intake on an SRT-4 is a waste of money though. The stock intake and airbox is being used on 90% of those fast SRT-4's running low 12's on the factory turbo. It isn't until you go with a bigger snail that the stock airbox becomes restrictive.

When you say "wastegate DIY mod", are you talking about a new wastegate and a boost controller? I've never heard DIY before. I tried an AGP wastegate and MBC on my old SRT-4 and it was a complete pain in the ass. After a weak of driving around with my shop gloves and a 10mm ratchet trying to fine tune the damn thing I'd had enough. I sold both and just bought stage 2. It was plug and play. With that and my 3" exhaust it was probably a low 13 second/high 12 second car if driven well. God knows it would have been hard on those pizza cutter rims though.

Ah ok. It's called the "spring mod". It was one of the first welfare mods I ever read about on the SRT forums. Here's a "how to" over there...

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161023

It's easy to do and only costs about $8 in parts at Home Depot. I never did it but I know it works. Only problem is that you have to keep resetting the PCM every couple days because the computer starts gradually bringing the boost back down to stock levels.

Sweet race, lots of turbo hiss in that competition.

Why not the IHI VF series turbos? Something wrong with them? (I'm asking cos I finally got a decent job to start shit with my car)

Re: Classic...WRX vs SRT4

^^ there is nothing wrong with the IHI series turbos, just that they are not "up-gradable" like the greddy turbos are. Once the IHI turbos are done, you throw them out, hence why they are cheaper. I might consider upgrading to a VF34 or VF22 and see what it's like first and if i like it i'll stay with it, if not i'll sell it and go Big16g

Low 12s on the factory turbo?? Whaa? S3R barely musters low 12s on street tires and that's an upgraded turbo. GT35R kits run low 12s/high 11s. All on street tires of course. I know one guy who runs 12.3s on stock turbo but it's on slicks. He also has a boat load of mods too. intercooler, agp wga, some mbc, full exhaust, "super secret tuning", and a good ole' mopar STS. Also, it's an 03..so he added his own quaife LSD.

I was thinking Mopar stage 3 when I wrote that. It's technically still the factory turbo housing although it's been upgraded with larger compressor and turbine wheels. I think mid 12's on a 100% stock turbo (higher boost of course) would pretty much be the limit of the factory snail.

Josh - I'm thinking either a Large 16g or 18g (fitted for wrx's obviously cuz the normal DSM's won't fit). Also I plan on upgrading clutch and flywheel obviously, a better tune (dyno), and the supporting mods for the turbo ie. injectors + fuel pump.
Who makes headers for the wrx?

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
