Cool is there different kinds of motors for the 99 mercury cougar

I have a 99 mercury cougar v6 2.5 duratec and I keep seeing something about an ATX and MTX 2.5 is there a difference from what I have.

99 was the first year for the new generation cougar correct? The 2.0L did find its way into the early cougars, but since it was so slow especially when mated to the atx, it was eventually dropped completely.

the old style stopped in 97 so either the new style started in 98, or they didnt make a cougar in 98,
