OK...so its been a little problem for a while, but it is getting bad so here we go. when i drive my car will bog down. i will be driving at any given speed in any gear and the severity will vary. sometimes it will just make the car jolt or sputter and other times its like someoone shut off my car and there is no throttle response at all and then it will just come back. please any thoughts will help.. i was thinking that it might be the fuel pump, and maybe the dist. and plug wires. so if anyone has experienced this please let me know. thanks.
p.s. on a positive note, i just installed a vlsd. now if i can get my car to work so i can use it. |

Try changing the dist. cap, plugs, and wires. if that dont cure it try cleaning the mafs. Also a new fuel filter wouldnt hurt.

im gonna try the dist and wires...plugs are fairly new and good. fuel filter is new. ill check the mafs but i think i cleaned the connections not too long ago. does anybody know waht happens when the fuel pump goes out or starts to. and is there any way to check... thanks for the help leestewart...keep em coming

MAFS. I had the same problem. Here's how to check:
1) Turn the car comletely off with the key out. 2) Unplug the MAFS. 3) Take the car for a spin. See if the problem persists. (Note: Do not attempt any hard acceleration for the ECU will not enter open loop. Your car will hit a brick wall at any more than cruising) 4) If the car drives better and no more dying gayness, then the MAFS is bad. If nothing changes, keep looking. Also may wanna check out the coil. Test resistance between the terminals. Let me know if your MAFS is bad. I have one laying around here and I'll let it go for $80 shipped.

Symptoms might also point to a faulty tps sensor .
think the 240 use's a variable resistance to tell the ecu at what throttle % it is , if resistance is bad at some point , accellaration and drivebility are altered best of luck |

my car does the same thing. But it will be torn apart shortly so....i just figured it was a MAF problem.
Is it like your car isnt using all its power, then it kicks in to full potential?? It randomly happens to my car. More so on hot ass days.

if ur fuel pump is out... ur call will boog. but at the end it will just die. try changing it (how old is it? what is the milz on the car?)

why is everyone's answer to everything *change it!*
Dont change it , get a fuel pressure gauge and a multimeter and check the god darn thing way cheaper then changing and figuring out that wasnt the problem in the first place... You guys need to learn how to check you engines electrical parts , you might save a bunch in the long run . |

duh... do u think we swap pary w/o knowing if its brokn or not.
yeh, a voltmeter is needed when checking if the pump is receving power (or just listen to it)

k just to update everyone, my car would kinda buck while driving at completely random times and throttle would completely cut out for a couple seconds from time to time...very annoying! anyhow, i checked, with a multimeter, the MAFS, the TPS, fuel injectors, fuel pump. i think thats about it. and while doing my inspections i managed to find a pin hole in my fuel line (not the problem) and the plastic shielding for the mafs was off 2 of the wires. i thought it was grounding out, but unfortunatly not the problem. then i started to check the vacuum line for the fuel and thought maybe the problem was in the fuel pressure regulator. while doing so i came across the EGR-BPT valves. the little elbow hose going from the bottom of the BPT vslve was severly cracked. i replaced that and so far no problems (knock on wood) going on 100 miles or so. thats a record for not having this shitty problem. so ill keep you all updated. i fugured a good week of no bucking would convince me the problem is gone. thank you all for the advice and input.
