Happy Birthday Peloton!

You're home already, or still in town, celebrating

Up for another thirty, and let's see what next year will bring. Owning one yourself is a high goal, but you can never aim too high of course. What about getting to drive one, wouldn't that top your August 2005 experiences??

One of my friends said "If I owned that car, I would have let you drive it". I countered that statement with "If I owned that car, I'm not sure if I would let me drive it"

Honestly, the F1 seems so far beyond my capabilities as a driver that I would be quite afraid to ever take the wheel in someone else's. I know it can be driven slow with no trouble, but anything can happen. Also, what fun is it to drive an F1 slow? You'd have to push it a few times to really say you experienced the car, and again anything can happen. People like Scott and Richard and probably most other F1 owners have climbed the performance ladder so to speak, driving other cars with similar amounts of power and handling before sliding into the seat of the F1.

The fastest car I have driven may have been making somewhere between 500-550hp, but it had all-wheel drive, and a host of driver aids to keep things from getting out of hand at the hands of an over ambitious driver. The F1 has none of those things and it comes down to the driver's ability to control the car at the limits he/she reaches.

I'd much rather be a passenger in one than faced with the responsibilty of controlling an F1 from the middle seat. Of course I'm saying all this now, in a situation where it is quite easy to think rationally, but if I was ever tossed the keys to an F1 I'd probably have to give it a go. Even if it were just a lap of the parking lot.

Well I'm sure I couldn't say no to that kind of pressure.

Thanks Mr S - that comment made my day.
