Re: New Hemi Jeep
I drove one a couple of weeks ago. The hemi has quite the juice, and the IFS rides great on the road.
But, it's not so much better than my '04 that I want to go out and buy it. I think the '04 is a better off roader. |

Re: New Hemi Jeep
The words in the headlines should read....Jeep SUCKums to the IFS trend. Throwing away all its former press about HD 4WD systems...
Oh, progress... |

Re: New Hemi Jeep
i have to agree with that i think my solid axle jeep rides better than any ifs blazer i've been in and we all know how horrible blazers and s10 4wds are if you don't i'll tell you they stink. fords have there problems too can't beat the durability of solid fronts

Re: New Hemi Jeep
Yes INDEED, alright guys and gals lets get to the point, we love the HEMI and most of the styling of the new WK, but the the IFS has to go, lets face it the best part the ZJ/WJ has been the 2 Solid axles. That will never change, i think the WK has a weak spot and it is deffinately the split axles, this is the biggest weakness in S10 and BLAZERS , there is no protections for the CV's and the are at such an angle they are just waiting to snap....... Self experience my Neighbor has a S15 and he damn near ruins his CV's everytime he's out playing.......

Re: New Hemi Jeep
Unfortunately, the same thing happened to most 4x4 trucks a few years back (live axle => IFS). Likely the main reason is the road manners are a bit better. It maybe that it could be cheaper to manufacture, truth be known.
If I am correct, most people have gotten Jeeps because of ther reputation and ability to perform great offroad. The solid axle contains its drive point near the center allowing for great mobility offroad. Anyway, buy what you like; sometimes it may not be the right color or some other feature (ie: IFS). If you think lifting a 99-04 JGC is limited now, see what happens with the IFS 05 (fancyschmancy spindles, etc..). |

Re: New Hemi Jeep
It's nice to see new stuff, but is it really a jeep anymore?
It looks to me as if a parking stone would take out the front end ground effects, when they made the 5.9 it was 14 seconds and still able to do trails, it seems to me that this jeep is nothing more then a rich bitch ride, nothing but a ride for "Buffy" and "Ted" to get "raw" with friends in. Come on Jeep, dont give into the speed dream, if you do keep it able to go off road... Anything less then a Limited does not even have a 4lo anymore! If I had money I would buy the rights to Kiser (?spelling) and build a basic truck. I would offer engines from GM Ford and Dodge and maybe some engines overseas. I would offer a base 4x2 that was on the same frame as the 4x4 so you could allways upgrade, the bare bones 4x4 would have everything gone out of it, nothing, just a good truck, no AC no power anything and I would sell it so dam cheap that I would make hand over fist in money. |
