My Tranny is acting up , HELP ME!!!

when i drive it sounds like it down shifts, i know its stuck in second, and the "shift into D2" light comes on, now in my situation i just put a 2001 1.9l sohc engine in my 1991, i used an auto tranny out of a 1994, at first it worked very well but then it just starting having problems, the light comes on, i was reading up on this, on here and i was having the same symptoms, i was told that the tranny was recently rebuilt, but i dont know what could cause this. can anyone tell me what could be wrong and if i needed to could i put a 2001 tranny into the car, would that work better with the 2001 engine instead of the 1994 one? please let me know.

are you still using the 92 PCM? do you have the pcm out of the 94? was the 94 DOHC or SOHC?

most likey the tranny isn't compatible with the PCM, but your PCM needed work anyway so, that may not be that bad.

I PULLED the codes from my 1991 sohc i got code 13,26,32,33 (not listed), 34, and 82 (not listed). i do have the 1994 computer and it was from an automatic tranny(the one in my 1991 now, BOTH are SOHC, will they interchange? and if so where is the computer located so i can swap them.

were the codes blinking from the SES light or the upshift light? if they came from the SES light they are engine codes - http://www.differentracing.com/tech_...dtc_chart.html - if they came from the upshift light, they are tranny codes. if they are engine codes, it looks like you have a bad PCM. in which case check EVERYTHING before you swap the PCMs(wiring, grounds, fuses, ect). for to reasons 1 - you don't want to swap PCM if you don't have to, 2 - you don't want the new PCM fryed. i beleave you will also need to swap wiring harnesses, and maybe play around with the gauges' wiring(if so i can get the diagrams). i suggest you continue this problem on saturnfans.com, for i may know my stuff, but the people there know more.

i forgot the PCM itself is under the dash, by the driver's left foot, the ABS module is also right there.

let me clairify myself, i need wiring diagrams for the PCM commectors to know which pin ia which and to make sure if their th same on each models, i replaces the 1991 PCM with the 1994 and it is still tellin me to manually shift to D2, the light is coming on. i'm stuck any other suggestions. i tried lookin on saturnfans.com wasnt able to find any other problems. thanks

was it you that said u know someone that can reprogram saturn computers. if so let me know and how much. i might need mine reprogramed to be used with the corrrect tone wheel on the 2001 crank, instead of the 1991. let me know what u think.

i hate to say it but the people that replyed to you on saturnfans.com are out of their mines. you do not need to convert to 2001 specs. use the 94 PCM and wiring and you will be fine.

the guy who can reprogram the PCM name is brad, he goes by the username "BBB" on turbosaturns.net, he doesn't work with OBD-2, only 91-95 PCMs, if you were to keep the 91 PCM and need to change the timing he would be the guy, i don't know if he can alter the gear ratios to set them for the 94 trans.

i tried the 1994 pcm and still got the same problems, do u think i would need to start out with a clean PCM w/ no codes to begin with?, it still has old codes in it i can tell.

you may also want to check and make sure none of the wiring is pinched or damaged(possibley routed wrong during install?)

the PCM codes should be erased when ever battery power is lost., you shouldn't need a new PCM unless your current one is internally trashed. at most the PCM may need reflashed by saturn if you options are different(ABS, Trac, Cruise, ect.

If you mean the D2 light when you refer to the upshift light then no they were just blinking from the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. But good point i will double check all the wiring, when i swapped in the 1994 PCM i mean i had to disconnect it from the battery but it still had airbag codes from the old car it was in. i think i just mught have to go pokin arount in there with a tech 1 and my dick snippers or somin lol. but i can understand when u say i shouldnt need a new PCM, can a PCM be reflashed to use a new crank or should the 1994 pcm be compatable with the 2001 crank iin the engine now. lemme know whet u think, i'm goin home today and ill prolly mess with it saturday , illlet u know for sure tho

So i got the 1994 pcm in the 1991 now and all i had to do was just switch the engine part of the wiring harness.At first i thought i wasgonna hav e to just rip apart the whole car and take out all 3 sections of the whole damn thing. not..., to be honest, i'm a lazy fuck so i just tried the single engine harness and put the pcm in to match it and it worked(the way i see it if it goes it goes), eventually the engine light went off but i'm still getting the low coolant light flashing from when the pcm was in the other car(that hasn't seem to have gone away yet). but anyway it works for everyone that was wonderin. i came across another problem, but i think its cause its cause the shifter cable is jacked up. it wont shift sometimes when its in first , a couple times the rpm's met the rev limiter, but i kinda bumped my hand on the shifter and it shifted . i dont know tho if it was cause it was kinda stuck in N and D at the same time but i dont think that would cause it, anyway it only does it sometimes, i check the fluid and it was full and didn't smell burnt, so ill be posting anything else that happens on here. SEE YA!!!!
