The actuator on my 1997 chevy c/k silerado has a cracked housing and seems to be shorting out - trying to kick into 4wd intermittentingly. I want to try to change it out, but it looks like it is "pinned' in place. Coulding find part number on actuators, but part no on transfer case is cav22, 15572992, and on half shaft (where actuator connects) is 26061670 -4.
Haven't worked on vechicles in years, but still willing to give it a try..any help would be much appreciated.. drd |

4x4
on my identical year Z-71 i purchased a new actuator from the dealer along with a wiring harness. it came to around $230. and they gave me the wrong harness that i had to rewire myself. basically it's a r&r job. you have to splice into the brown wire from the transfer case switch. not too hard of a job. if i did it again, i'd get a posi lock kit. they are a lot less hassle, a little cheaper, and no electronics.

Re: how do i replace the 4wd actuator on 97 silverado
Thanks, for te help. To get ack home, i just ended up taking out the front drive shaft and disconnecting the cables to the actuator. Will probably replace the cables this weekend and if that doesn't do it, will go with the posi lock kit.
