air bag light code 51

my air bag light is flashing the code is 51 what does that code mean and how do i fix it. Any help would be appriacited

What year is your Taurus? Assuming it is a '92-'95 (possible earlier Taurii as well), the airbag code 51 only flashes after a code 13 (Airbag circuit short to ground) or 14 (Primary crash sensor circuit short to ground) had been present, indicating a short circuit in the airbag circuit. If the thermal fuse internal to the diagnostic monitor blows AND the short goes away, the code 51 will flash. However, if you have a code 51, it sounds like your diagnostic monitor needs to be replaced since the thermal fuse is inside the monitor. Obviously, you will want to be very sure you know what caused the short in the first place and repair it, otherwise your new diagnostic monitor will open the thermal fuse soon.

thanks for the help and yes the mine is a 92 i must have needed sleep not to put that in
