Can someone help me with my brake problem PLZ!!

i have a 96 cav and for some reason the back brakes lock up on dirt. When you come out in the morning to leave in the car they lock up really bad. When your on the road tho when your coming to a stop it almost sounds like the back brakes are binding because when you let off the brake it makes a bang sound and you can feel the back jump a little.
The car has ABS and the back brakes are drums. Would could be causing this? The brakes look fine, could the wheel cylinders be sticking? Or the proportional valve messed up?

not sure about your problem, but for shits and giggles check out your drums and see if there anything around them or cracks or anything like that.

Re: Can someone help me with my brake problem PLZ!!

i did look at the drums, they appear fine, see i just left my house afew minutes ago and they were locking up going down my dirt drivway. You know when you hit your e brake and you give the car a little gas the ass end goes down, well when your comming to a stop hitting the brakes the ass end goes down and then when i let off the pedal you here a bang noise like the brakes are hanging up or something. Could the springs in the drum be weak?

Re: Can someone help me with my brake problem PLZ!!

I'm gonna say it's not the brakes or rotors themselves. If one side were defective, chances are they wouldn't lock up in sync. It's gotta be some sorta ABS sensor.

Re: Can someone help me with my brake problem PLZ!!

I had a similar problem with only one brake locking up on a gravel driveway. I rebuilt the wheel cylinder, installed new shoes, springs, hardware and the problem went away.

I had thesame problem. Fixed it by cleaning the brake adjusters and adjusting the out to where you can just get the drums back on the car.
