This week was really busy so I haven't done much... but I added some parts to the gearbox and cleaned some more parts for the engine. I also primed the suspension parts and hopefully I am able to finish the rear shock absorbers in the next few days, stay tuned

In case you want to know which PE nuts I mainly use, here they are "Model Car Garage Nuts, Bolthead set". They are really great and the parts are much smaller than the ones from SMS.


Here's a comparison shot with 1 Cent (Euro), just to show you how tiny these are...


And 1 more shot from the gearbox! The valve cover isn't painted yet!!! And you can see the added weld line on the oil reservoir!




And the best thing of the week, I got the replacement parts from Tamiya on thursday , so the next steps are finishing the rear dampers and then painting the valve covers (hopefully I won't mess them up this time ) + fuel rail etc....

$1400 for a built MP4/6 in 1:12... Phew.. That is a load of money.. Think you will be able to sell your build for this kind of money?

What colour did you use on the transmission case? The colour looks different from what the instruction is call for.
And did you apply some rough texture to the transmission case too ?

Yeah, I saw that. I am not quite sure if it's worth it because the pics are crap... they are so small and blurred you can't see anything...
But the base is really nice!!

Yes, the color is different from what the instructions say. It's Alclad II Magnesium looks way more realistic, if you ask me. And as you can see from my pics it looks a bit different from another angle or light! And about your second question, yes I applied a light texture to the transmission. The black basecoat was sprayed from a large distance.


Sorry, that there are not so many updates lately. I mainly worked on small parts, cleaned and sprayed them etc. very time consuming. And I glued the first exhaust together wich was quite dissapointing, the fitting was horrible (compared to modern Tamiya standarts (Enzo, CGT...)) But some glue here and there and it turned out well.
And I finally found the perfect gold for the suspension arms Alclad II pale gold is the way to go, looks great. Pics will follow in the next few days after the paint is dry.

nothing real exciting but anyway some more pics

Sratchbuild cover under the second oil resevoir, will be painted black. I simply used the thinest sheet styrene i got and cut out a circle, the rest was some sanding.



Rear Anti Roll bar from the Perfect Parts detail set. All parts are infact two and glued together. The gap between the two parts are filled with superglue, I hope they won't be visible after primer....



And finally first exhaust glued together, it was a pain in the ***... fittment was really bad, can't wait to do the other side...
still needs some touch ups here and there....

Nice steady progress.. Gearbox looks great in Alclad. I used the same colour for my honda wheels, but I backed it with grey, to make it lighter.. worked a treat.

And how you use those small P/E parts.. Take it you fix them with drops of clear?

The McLaren is looking good, but I must say, you must have my build specs and photos of my MP4/6 on your workbench...everything is looking very familiar, which I guess I will take as a compliment!!!

You won't believe it but it's quite easy , you just have to know the trick...

the tweezers are really important when you work with PE parts but in this case you only need a toothpick and a needle (i used a really big toothpick because it's much easier to work with, I think toothpick is maybe the wrong word but I am not quite sure what the right word is...) then simply insert the needle in one end and it should look like mine...



Now you can add really small drops of superglue, kristal klear, clearcoat or whatever with the needle and



with the otherside you can place the PE Parts. Simply dip the woodenside in water and then the magic happens...PE nuts, washers or bolts will stick to it and you can easily place them wherever you want! You just need a steady hand, try it, it works great!!!


BTW if you want to add some bigger drops of glue simply use a toothpick!

To be honest, I read your build specs like 100 times and looked at your photos many many hours!!! Of course, there are some things in common like the exhaust connectors, but the Sakatsu Air Jack fittings are simply perfect for it.
The first thing when I start to work on a new part is looking at the Perfect Manual then compare it to your build (which are almost the same pics ), then check Andy Matthew's pics and look how he done it.
After all these inspiration I try to make the part to look as real as possible (or what my skill allows ).
