Question GMC/CHEVY what's the difference???

I have a 98 GMC Z-71, I'm always looking on the net for performance parts and accessories. I've noticed that on alot of the websites that have "search by vehicle" more parts come up for chevy than gmc. Why is this, my buddy had a chevy z-71 same year as mine, and from what i remember, the only difference between the two is that his has chevy tags on it and mine has gmc. Is there something diffrent that i missed?

No, you're right. The only differnece is the badge. Same brand/company, same truck.

These trucks are built on the same assembly line and except for some cosmetic differences they are the same vehicle.

Re: GMC/CHEVY what's the difference???

I know an inventory manager for one of the bigger Chevy dealerships in DFW area. I once asked him that same question. His answer simply was, "Besides the obvious logos, 'bout $2 grand on the sticker, nothing else."

Re: GMC/CHEVY what's the difference???

Probably because of the relative number of dealers, about six to eight Chevys are sold for each GMC. On the basis of rarity, I guess that makes the GMCs more "exclusive". Me, I drive a Chevy.

But when shopping for a used truck I wouldn't hesitate to "jump brand" if one or the other was a better deal!

Re: GMC/CHEVY what's the difference???

Sorry, Snowgoer.

I don't know about the interiors, but how can the paint be different when the Chevys and GMCs come down the same line (about every sixth one is a GMC) whether the plant's in Canada or Mexico.

In the early sixties there WERE real differences in the pickups. 2WD Chevys had straight sixes and coil springs all around. GMCs had V6s, torsion bars in front and leaf springs in back.

In the fifties, Chevy pickups and panels used small-blocks and Powerglides, while GMCs had much larger Pontiac V8s and Hydramatics.
