5th gear whining noise
When I change up into 5th gear (manual gearbox) around 50mph, there is a distinct high pitch whining noise. None of the other gears make the same noise, only 5th gear, and it seems to disappear around 60mph.
Is this normal? Anyone else noticed this? My 2000 has always done this since new, and I was just wondering if a) it is normal, and b) does anyone know why it does this? Thanks, Kev |

Re: 5th gear whining noise
Did you ever find the reason for the whining in 5th gear? let me now, at [email protected]. Thanks in advance!

Re: 5th gear whining noise
No, but I think from reading elsewhere it seems to be normal.

5th gear whine
I have an '02 Crew Cab with 5 speed. Mine had the whine also. Changed gear lubricant to synthetic and added one quart Lucas oil additive. Whine is gone. I have driven 5 other frontiers with 5 speeds...all with over 30k miles. All of them had the whine. Seems to be a normal oddity (oxymoron, yes I know) among our trucks.
