oil pan gasket???
1987 grand am se 3L...
there is oil everywhere leaking off the bottom of my engine ( eg. starter, oil pan, frame etc.) --- but it seems as if it is all leaking from the oil pan gasket... now, if i take off the oil pan screws it looks as if the oil pan will not just drop right off... will i have to take the tranny pan off aswell? or, would i be able to lift the engine for more access then drop the oil pan? ... also, will i have to use sillicone aswell as the new gasket for the new seal? |

Re: oil pan gasket???
you dont need to remove the trany pan. All you need to do is diconnect the engine mount, i think the passanger side, and jack up the motor enough and it should come out fairly easy, just dont pull to hard as not to bend or break the oil pump pick-up. Hope this helps and Welcome to Automotive Forums!

Re: Re: oil pan gasket???
My 90 seems the same as yours. Except my valve cover gasket wasn't on right. Oil is everywhere in/on my engine(2.5L 4C) and the underbody. When I got underneath to see what was up I noticed that my tranny gasket is sticking out in a couple of spots. I know it needs replaced, too.
I swear it always something with these things after 160,000 miles!

Re: oil pan gasket???
oil can leak from the valve covers and over time cover the engine. Air blowing on the engine makes the oil run all over the place, makeing it hard to locate the leaks.. A can of eninge degreaser will clean it off pretty well though. both the oil pan and transmission pan will come off easily. Valve cover gaskets are a breaze too. Hope this helps you guys out. \,,/
