The "Wilds" of America?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050817/ts_nm/usa_wild_dc

After reflecting on this article, I think the idea is most definately an interesting one. Sounds to me like the only real losers in this scenario are the pronghorn antelope

Re: The "Wilds" of America?

Man, that's opening a can of worms. You can't just introduce non-native species to a different continent. Example: Australia. In the 1800's, 7 rabbits were brought as targets (and I guess for food) by an Englishman. Yes, only seven. Now rabbits are a complete infestation in southern Australia, as there are no natural predators. See also the snakehead fish that is in the US. How about Africanized bees? Kudzu vine? Nutria? That's all that comes quickly to mind; needless to say it's not a good idea.

Other unwelcome non native species:
Cane toads in Australia, brown snakes in Guam, zebra mussels in the Great Lakes,
and even dandilions in North America.

Don't American ranchers complain about wolves enough?? Do they need cheetahs and lions, too?

True enough; and you'd think with all the hullabaloo about the existing wildlife "intruding on civilization" (nevermind that the animals were there first) that adding to the population isn't the best of ideas.

Oh yeah, and not much response to this thread. Perhaps it's too thought provoking
