92 Pontiac Sunbird Water Pump

Has anyone changed the water pump on a 92 Sunbird? How hard is it to do the job yourself?

It's not really that "difficult", but can be a time consuming... tricky... PITA. The water pump is drivin by the timing belt, so you have to set it up for TDC on #1, and make sure the cam is aligned correctly when you put on the NEW TIMING BELT (hint.. hint..lol).

Best to pick up a Haynes, or Chilton manuel if you've never done one before.

I myself, have sucessfully done one on a 84 1.8L (same basic engine), while I was replacing the head gasket.

But I ran into a number of problems with a 89 that I bought a few months ago.... Previous owner seriously screwed that one up (if he did the work), ended up junking the whole car (for more reasons than that... that was just the last straw).

Haven't decided if I'll try to tackle the 94 when it needs one, or just pay to have it done.

My manuel did refer to some years needing a special tool.... The first one I did was from the book, and I didn't have any real problems... it just took a while.
