If the check engine light is coming on, the path to your answer is there and must be determined, shotgunning parts is not going to do much but make the parts counter guy happy as day as he rings you up.

Now, how are you attempting to access the ECM to obtain the trouble codes? Jumping a to b isn't going to work, this is a OBD I hybrid. You need to view the codes in live data stream.

It soudns like you've done some routine checks already which is good. But, the problem is something in the engine mgmt. system is awrye.

Re: 94 z28 lt1

Find somebody with a scanner. Freakin' hybrids. I have one also, and for a while I thought my computer was shot. I'm sure glad I read up on it on the internet because I was about to buy one.
~By the way, in my quest for wisdom I found some really good sources for ALDL software hacks to hook up to a laptop or even a crappy shop PC. Lots of free downloads for read only and read/write. The only hitch in the deal is you have to buy their cables to use the software. I think they run about $50 or so. Not a bad deal when you figure what a scanner can go for. Just gotta be careful not to upload porn onto your car's PCM or something silly. Once you flash it, it's gone and you better have the right program or you will be walking. I am thinking about getting a spare PCM from a junk yard to play with. Sounds cool.

Re: 94 z28 lt1

I just had the same problem on a 93 TA. Did you change just the dis cap and rotor or the whole optispark? I put a whole new optispark in mine and the problem went away.

Oh check your MAF sensor, get some carb cleaner and clean it if its dirty. Make sure you take it out of the car when you clean in and make sure that all the cleaner dries before putting it back in.

Maybe you got a bad load of gas. Does the fuel smell funny? Or look yellowish? I had a 94 Z that had bad gas in it when I bought it, would pop back through the intake then run like sh&t and stall. I drained the gas and put some fresh premium in it and a bottle of injector cleaner and it ran better.

Re: 94 z28 lt1

Has anyone tried the new cap and rotors from MSD for the optispark? I ordered one from Summit when they first published it in their catalogs. The kit only runs about $150. I ended up cancelling the order because they couldn't even get it for another couple months at the time. I had to order an original GM unit and pay through the nose. That hurt. Cured my problem though (which sounds alot like the original post here).

I was just wondering how it worked out and if anybody knew anything more about it since it sounds like they did away with the original high/low resolution trigger setup. I wonder how that ties in with the signal coming from and back to the PCM. I don't remember it saying anything about off-road use only, so it must somehow to be emissions legal.

I have been affraid to clean my MAF since I saw the price of a new one. I had hoped carb cleaner would work, but was just being a tight-wad sissy. I think I'll take the little tube off the spray nozzle to spread out the spray pattern since the pressure could probably break that little filament lookin' thing in there just to be sure.
