A/C, 95 Aurora

I have no cold air. I was told that I needed a compressor. Well, 1st one they said was no good. 2nd 1 they said was good but still no cold air. They said that I now need a BCM. I looked that up and I don't want to spend the money on something that will not give me cold air.

Hey there,

Don't know what you do or don't know about A/C systems but more information would really help. I just redid the one in my 98, and I can say they are kind of a pain. Here are a few questions...

1. Is the compressor coming on at all? (look w/ a flashlight to see if the clutch kicks in and spins...have the car running, windows down and on as low of an A/C setting you can)

2. If it does come on, does it cycle a lot?

3. Is there any air at all coming out of the vents(warm or cold)? Basically, I'm trying to see if the blower is even moving air.

4. Do you know the High/Low side pressure readings? YOu likely don't have a manifold guage to get this, but the A/C refill kits at auto store sell kits w/small guages. These will at least tell the low side pressure.

5. When they replaced your compressor, did they replace the accumulator and orifice tube also? If your compressor had a bad failure (or any failure really..these 2 parts are relatively cheap)and emitted metal shavings into the system(fairly common..happened to me and many others) the orifice tube screen will get full of this gunk and not work at all.

6. Also, in the event your compressor did have a bad failure and shavings were found in the orifice tube, the condensor should be replaced (not just flushed). Since the tubing is so small, the shavings get lodged in there and don't flush out well. If they get dislodged once the system is fixed, the shavings will just ruin the new compressor.

Good luck...my advice is to ask around and find a good shop and let them diagnose it. If you take it somewhere, reply to the post and say what they found and plan to do. Someone can let you know if it seems right.
