Jeep just dies!?!?

Well here's the deal I have an '89 cherokee most driven by my better half in the last week or so it has been idling pretty high oh... around 1000 to 1500rpm or so It also is have issues with the charging system am only reading 8 to 10 volts when it should be about 14 so I am assuming altenator. So here is the question part could it be the MAP sensor for the idle or something else? Anyone one with ideas info? Thanks
