Re: whats a good and easy motor swap for 1st gen neon

hi, i know what your saying, there are a few swaps you can do. you can either do a 2.4 dohc swap from a mid 90's stratus, i know that www.jlmmotorsports.com sells a swap kit for that but i hear its pretty difficult. i just finished performing a 2.0 dohc swap on my 95 coupe. try to get the motor from another 96 that has the same number of doors. it should be as easy as putting the motor and ecu in and you'll be done. make sure that if you do this swap you tell the junkyard that you need all of the o2 sensors, power steering lines, and all of the vacuum/emissions hoses as well as the radiator and hoses. the best idea for the trasmission (assuming that your car is a 5 speed) is to use the one that comes with the motor. for ease of installation i suggest a header and an air intake. also make sure you have the plastic fuel line and all of that. if you get one from a 96 every wiring connector and computer will plug right in. if you can only find a 97-99 motor buy the harness that runs from the dash and controlls the whole engine bay. thats what i had to do and it was cut in a few places so now my lights are a little screwy, so make sure that its completely uncut! as 2 last things, if the crank pulley is bent go to www.modernperformace.com, they have a nice underdrive with belts for about $115 also if you cant get a computer modern performance also sells the mopar ecu upgrade for about $250 all in all this swap should run you about 450-800 for the motor, tranny, ecu and wiring and little details like the header and intake should be about 250-500 depending on what you get. i hope this helps you, lemme know what happens.....

one final note, if you can get either the motor or just a tranny from a neon acr grab it, the motor has 150hp stock and the tranny has qucker gears than the normal dohc or so ive been told
