Question can U swap '98 2.2 motor&trans into '92 or others

I have a 1998 Camry(wrecked) with 2.2 4-cyl. and might wish to swap it into my 1992 (non-wrecked) Camry. Has anybody done this, is it feasible and what stuff might have to be swapped????

Cool

You can do anything with enough money, and yes it is a direct fit.

98' 5S-FE 133bhp@5200rpm, 147lb-ft@4400rpm
VS
92' 3S-FE 119bhp@5600rpm, 130lb-ft@4400rpm

You're going to need to swap the OBD-II ECU over, and splice in all the controls. That in itself is going to be a huge b**ch. You should have gotten a pre-1996 5s-fe (still OBD-I), or an OBD-I 3s-ge if you wanted a little more performance. The wiring harness is muhc easier to deal with.

Low mileage JDM engine's are nice too (same power for the 3s-fe), but the intake / exhaust manifolds have no EGR hookup (Good if you have no emessions testing).

Stay OBD-I if you want to make it easy on yourself

*note*
If you have an A/T, you need the engine ECU from an A/T. The transmission computer is internal to the ECU so... You go bringing a M/T ECU into an A/T car, you're not going to move when you step on the gas LoL!

REPLY: Thanks for your input, luckily I did not buy this 1998 just for engine swap. I will be parting it out apparently (fyi) has 77,000 on it too. Sounds like you know alot about these, so thanks.

What? That's a fairly unsubstantiated opinion...

For starters, they're (3s-fe) the weakest performance of the "big 4" S blocks (3s-fe, 3s-ge, 3s-gte, 5s-fe) by leaps and bounds. Not to begin on the facts that they're also physically the weakest, and use older style parts with a higher MTBF. There is absolutely no regard in which the 3s-fe is superior to a 5s-fe.

If you want to say something good sucks out of the blue, you're going to have a hard time actually proving that...
