Re: This is gonna be a shame....

I don't know about you but when I put down 18k on a new car built by perfect people and designed by perfect people then I want it to be perfect in every way. For 18k I expect flowers to bloom as I drive by them, I want there to never be any kind of problem in my new Ford. I expect the same quality as my $120,000 Mercedes for under 20k...that's not too much to ask is it?

You bought a 2002 SES in November of 2004...which makes me think you bought a used car.

Guess I will jump in on this one

Well after reading all of this, and being a GM fan boy (sorry guys...it dont get better than a 69 vette stingray or a 72 camaro SS, and a 71 "judge" GTO aint 1/2 bad...not to knock ya Elanor) plus my first car was an 87 olds delta 88, which drives, and rides like my taurus but aint an ugly wagon

I've got a 93 taurus GL wagon with the 3.0, and for the life of me i have to admit is one tough machine. I beat the ever living HELL out of that car, which i have had for almost a year now. When i first got it, i needed to do alot of maintenence stuff, calipers/drums, pads/shoes, tires, and the timing needed to be adjusted a bit, which i couldnt do my self since i am away at college and dont have access to lifts, airtools and all the other nice goodies my dad has. did all of that at the 103k mark, and for an $800 car, and putting $1600 in work in it (which was mostly labor and the tires) I am just now having problems with the steering (probably the rack), and that is really due to the fact i rip around turns @ like 40, take speed bumps at about 35-45, and just really wail on this thing. In light of all that, i used this car to move myself and a few others, loaded this thing down with some cinderblocks and my friends DJ equipment (he uses the blocks to support his turntables...idk why but w/e) and the car just did it.

I know alot of ppl have problems with these things, and hey lets face it, Ford hasnt exactly been the staple of superior engineering lately, but hey, every major manufacturer has "those years"

Re: This is gonna be a shame....

I have a 98 SES that has been virtually problem free. I bought it as a used rental car with 33K in 00'. I've put new rotors in it, new door latch sensors, and most recently a new DPFE(?, EGR connected). The car has 95K and I still get about 20MPG around town and 28-32 on the highway. It even took a rear end hit from a pickup and a collision with a deer. The body repairs made it look like new. Its just now starting to show its age. I will keep it until I run into the ground. By the way, I had a 72 Montego that I ran up to 150K before I sold it and a 74 Montego that I sold with close to 175K on it. I like Fords and have been real pleased with them. And I know my screen name says GP (Grand Prix), but I do like the Taurus and I'm coming to like the Grand Prix as well. We'll see on the GP as I just recently bought it with 81K.

I have a 98 SE with a 24v duratec. I have had not one bit of problems with it. I keep changin the oil over 3000 miles, or couple of months, and she treats me just right. never hesitates when I want to squeal the tires, and I have no complaints

Angry Lemons fer all

yep

There are lemons everywhere .

I bought a spanking new Chevy lemon and they lost a customer for life.

Same with Frods >>> never buy one again.

(yes Frods)

a thought about why people post for advice with problems

Maybe all you see is people posting about problems because they want to fix them. Theyre not gonna post about how awesome their car is. That's a waste of time. You don't see a bunch of healthy people at the hospital. EX: Hey evrybody, I drove my Taurus to the park today. It was fun, I went really fast. Then i played frisbee with my dog. My car is cool cuz its silver. It awesome. It goes really fast. Tomorow I'll post about my drive to work!

Re: This is gonna be a shame....

I have 2 96 taurai, theyre expensive to fix when they do go wrong but that doesnt happen very often....the worst problem iv had is some dumb mechanic putting the oil release valve on too tight and now its burred and i cant get it off :@ but rattles do happen and the CD doesnt work on both of them...but...the 2nd one i bought at an auction with 87000km on the clock and it was NZ$5300. thats pretty cheap, even if two thirds of everyone thinks its ugly. that equates to US$4000 for a 200 horse car with leather seats and a better ride and more space than any of the jap crap. and to "Pdawg" (does that mean your a dog that smokes P?) I took it from whangarei to auckland today, its a 100 mile trip and it was a great drive, took an hour and three quarters even though i had to go through 6 sets of roadworks, a holiday specialty in new zealand.

Re: a thought about why people post for advice with problems

Two things. First, the reason most people come here is to figure out what is wrong when they can't quite noodle it out themselves. To assume from what you read that all of em are turds is like hanging out at the service dept at the VW dealer and coming to the conclusion that all of them are turds as well because you see so many come in for repairs. Make any sense? Second, I have a '97 GL with 189,982 miles. Bought three years ago, done some work here and there (mainly maintenence items plus the kind of stuff that usually wears out after time). My car only had appox. 72k when I bought it, until recently I drove it 102 miles round trip back & forth to work six days a week, lived on gravel (believe me the dust off that will do a number on any car), and, shame on me, I drive it like it's a NASCAR, especially on the back roads. I'll gripe about her every now and then but this is the third car I've owned (previously a Chevy and a Dodge) and this one has lasted longest, done the most for me, been treated the worst, and JUST REFUSES TO GIVE UP!

I have a 95 GL with 150,000 on it and I have put it through hell, 20,000 between oil changes and riding on 3 may-pops. It starts every morning and has given me very little trouble, except for the $15 VSS I have to replace. It looks like hell, but I like it and would buy another, I would never buy a VW because they are a pain in the ass to work on. Have a nice day. michael.

Re: This is gonna be a shame....

To the original post. Thinking? What were you thinking? That you could get some free therapy on an automtive forum. that's what you were thinking. They're machines they break, get over it.
I've had fords, chevys, plymouths, AMC's, toyotas, vw's hondas and nissans. they all broke. things fell off, things rattled. this is the real world, perfection is for walgreens customers, seek professional help and leave the forum to those who use it for its intended purpose.

Granted it only has 26000 miles on it. It is a good car though. Always been reliable and if you take are of them, they'll take care of you.
