96 neon brakes

hello i've had my neon for a few weeks now and i'm really enjoying the vehicle. everything runs smoothly except the brakes, which squeak pretty loudly. another neon owner that i know has a 98 neon and her brakes squealed some too, so my question is: is it just the nature of the stock brakes to squeak some or is it time for a replacement?

The squeaking is normal on the neon. What you want to listen for is the squealing, letting you know the brakes are low and need to be replaced. My brakes usually squeal early in the morning or when it is kind of damp outside. The squealing can be reduced by shooting some brakekleen in there periodically to eliminate some of the brake dust that accumulates.

Re: 96 neon brakes

My brakes don't squeal, and never have regardless of wear. OEM rotors pads, plus second round rotors and pads. 230,000 miles. 1996 NEON DOHC... no sqeaks.
