engine fan shopping
yo sucka-b's -
my stock original 16 year old fan is starting to show seriouse cracks and i'd rather replace it now than it, the radiator and more later. The radiator is a brass 3-core (should have gone aluminum i know now). a lot of you guys have recently been discussing your rad new electric fans. i've got a 1200 watt system that is juiced by an optima and a 130 amp alternator, so i could handle powering one. but they are noisy, chincy and expensive. some guy who i have little respect for told me that flexible fans were the wave of the future. they are cheap, quite and the concept looks good on paper, but then again they flex and i'm not too trusting of extra moving parts in my engine bay. the stock fan is cheap, reliable, quite, efficient and proven... but performance wise it is stock. what do i get? 1) i have the money for electric - but do they cool enough for california heat and are they worth it? 2) are flexible fans to be trusted? 3) is replacing with oem something to be ashamed of?

Re: engine fan shopping
1. Electric fans are very reliable, that's why they are in the new mustangs.
2. Nothing is wrong with flex fans. 3. It does not matter what other people think, you need to take care of what is best for you. 4. A electric fan will use less horsepower.

Re: engine fan shopping
would anyone suppose that i'd have a problem with a black magic vs my larger than stock 3-core?
1) i didn't realize that, but is black magic a quality product that cools properly? 2) i heard that they can snap to peices... again by that jack-ass that i know. 3) thanks mother goose 4) i am leaning that way but i need to know more... does it take much juice to run? will it stay on after my car shuts down if it is still hot? is it loud and annoying like honda ones? (older ones sound like blenders)

Re: engine fan shopping
Mark VIII, or and Altima fan, SN95s are pretty good as well. I run a MarkVIII, that thing blows, but it pulls a lot of current, so I have 2 30amp relays in parallel(sp) for it.

Re: engine fan shopping
i'm going with the flex on silver's word that they are reliable. thanks for replying, but having an electric fan would bring back old memories of my gram's 88 honda that i drove in highschool. I hated parking infront of outdoor cafes becuase that stupid fan was so noisey.
