Wiring harness changed after 1994 for the trucks. Doesn't mean it can't be done, just not a direct hook up. You can buy the correct harness, and tap into the proper wires.

So , what are the options I have to equip my truck with CD or MP3 players, does anybody ever have done this before? Like installing a PIONEER, SONY or another japanese brand equipment? Does a double-DIN dash fit in replace of the original one?

yes it is real simplto hook up an aftermarket. Just go to your local car audio shop or wal mart, the sell a harness that will hook into your factory harness. Then just connect the wires into the new aftermarket player. easy as pie. make sure and get an antanna adapter.

Re: c1500 radio upgrade
I have a 90 K1500 and recently installed a Clarion CD/MP3 from crutchfield.com. It cames with everything to install the stereo. No factory wires needed to be cut.
All aftermarket CD/MP3 players will install in the middle of the dash where my Cassette player was. The kit also includes a piece that replaces the Radio controls of the stock unit. //2000CAYukon |

Look on ebay for adaptors. You will also find the dash surround trim that fits in your dash to allow you to put in an aftermarket stereo.

a "double-din" radio will not fit in the dash of your truck w/o some serious dash customization. Your best bet us a single din unit where the o.e. cassette player was with an aftmkt faceplate kit that replace the center radio surround/ vent assy. You can find them for about 15.00 in any color, as long as it black. It's easy to piant with a rattle can. As far as the control unit for the o.e. radio, it makes a good paperweight or 12 gauge target. You can either buy a pocket to cover the hole, or go the way I went. I wanted a tach, but don't like the big ugly round sucker on top of the dash, and being on a limited budget could not afford the a-pillar mounting. I got some "bondo" , a small piece of pvc (for the angle), a small piece of wood and mounted the tach there. IT came out great, and I haven't seen another like it yet.

I am new to this forum, so I am not sure how to post a photo, if oyu send me your e-mail I can shoot you one. Basically, I cut a piece of wood the same size as the old radio control unit with 3.5" diameter hole in the center of it. Then I got a piece of 4" PVC from Lowes and cut that at about a 15 degree angle, so that the tach would face the driver a little better. Then, add some plastic filler, a buttload of sanding, and I painted the whole IP cluster surround piece with a gray "hammered" finish spray paint to conceal any small imperfections, as I am by no means an expert at working with body filler. It probably would not win any shows, but for a daily driver I think it looks pretty sharp. The tach only cost about $30.00 at Autozone, so the whole thing ended up being about $50.00 + or -, and a week or so filling, sanding, painting a little bit each evening after work. I just saw a way to upload photos, so I'll try and post some hopefully tomm. |
