79 vette cruise control

Im going to work on my 79 vette cruise control. I got the car a year ago and it never has worked since I got it. Is there any componet failure in the system that is common for this vintage of vette? And does anyone have any troubleshooting tips on this cruise control system?

I've got a '79 as well. The good thing is that there isn't much to the cruise system... Basically it's just the wiring and the cruise control module. I've met a few '79 owners at shows with cruise control. When it's gone band its been the module under the hood on the passenger side. I've got a shop manual. I'll look up the common problems and let you know if you want.

that would be great meanwhile I will look for that module. When I try to engage the cruise I see the tach jump momentarily when I push the button on the turn signal

Problem solved. This afternoon I changed the transducer, thats the part under the hood left side fender next to washer tank. It has connections for 2 speed cables , 3 vac lines and 1 elec connector. System worked fine on test drive. Thanks for offering some help.
