3rd Brake Light Out

I have a 1994 Chevy S-10 2.2L with about 165,000 miles on it.
The upper 3rd brake light is out. The bulbs have been replaced and the light still will not turn on.
I'm not much of a repair person so I'm not sure if this is something I can handle fixing or if I need to take it to an electrian/mechanic.
Any ideas on what I could look at first to figure out if it's something I can fix.
I've searched about 8 pages of topics and didn't see anything on this subject.
Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Re: 3rd Brake Light Out

I'm just guessing that the ground is bad, and if you changed the bulbs yourself you can fix this problem.

See if you can borrow a test light, connect 1 end to a nice clean piece of steel in your truck if possible.
Then step on the brakes or get someone else to and touch it to one of the conections that the bulb would go to.
If it doesn't light up try the other side of the bulb.
If it lights up it'll be the ground. Take the fixture off. Then remove the wire off that bolts to the body, clean the end and the body where it screws to. Then screw it back on

3rd brake light problem

Thanks so much for the advise!
I must tell you I now feel like an idiot.
I got the test light, grounded it, tried to use it several different ways and it wouldn't light up.
Feeling discouraged and angry that I'd now have to pay for an auto electrician to fix this problem and worried that my partner would get a ticket for the light not working, I gave up.
I ran the truck down to the dumpster to throw away some trash and this little voice told me to re-check the fuses. I'd already checked the fuses and didn't see any that were blown.
This time, however, I did! It was the stop/hazzard light fuse, #1 in the box. I changed it immediatly and now everything works fine! I don't know what caused it to blow and I hope it doesn't happen again soon.
Thanks again!
